BCMaterials is pleased to welcome the prestigious scientist José Onuchic as a visiting researcher until next July. Onuchic is a professor of Physics and Astronomy, Chemistry and Biosciences at University of Rice and director of the Center for Theoretical Biological Physics, both institutions located in the United States.

We welcome a new post-doctoral researcher at BCMaterials: Estibaliz Ruiz Bilbao. After graduating in Chemistry at the UPV/EHU, she completed a Master's in Polymers, Colorants and Fine Chemicals at the University of Leeds (United Kingdom). Later she completed her doctoral studies in Materials Science at the UPV / EHU.

We want to congratulate Fangyuan Zheng, pre-doctoral researcher of BCMaterials, for becoming new doctor on 29th March. Fangyuan made an brilliant defense of her thesis entitled "Hybrid Photocatalytic Materials for Contaminants of Emerging Concern Degradation".

This is a result of years of the hard work of a brilliant young scientist. Congratulations, Fangyuan!!

Andrea Ugalde Pallares joined BCMaterials as a new predoctoral researcher. Based on her training and experience as a chemical engineer, Andrea will work together with Juan Pablo Esquivel, Ikerbasque Research Associate, within the framework of the BIDEKO project as a researcher for the manufacture and characterization of biodegradable batteries. Welcome Andrea!

The BCMaterials Foundation, Basque Center for Materials, Applications and Nanostructures obtained the "HR Excellence in Research" distinction awarded by the European Commission to those research institutions that commit to implementing the HSR4R action plan.

This week Jon Pascual and Pablo Muñumer have joined our center as new post-doctoral and pre-doctoral researchers, respectively.

We are happy to receive Rajendra Kumar Reddy Gajjala as new post-doctoral researcher at our center. Dr. Gajjala joined the micro and nano-devices research line to reinforce the current work BCMaterials develops on biosensors for health applications. As an expert in interfaces and nanomaterials, he also will help developing materials and nanomaterials to improve charge transfer at electrode-electrolyte interfaces.

BCMaterials gives its warmest welcome to two new pre-doctoral researchers: Mahdi Gassara and Abdessamad El Adel.

Mahdi Gassara has a Degree in Chemistry from the University of Sfax (Tunisia). In 2020 got the Master of Inorganic Chemistry from the same university, where he worked since 2021 s research assistant in Chemistry. Mahdi joins BCMaterials to work on the development of lead free perovskites and their integration in solar cells along with Shahzada Ahmad, Ikerbasque Research Professor.

We want to congratulate Naveen Harindu, pre-doctoral researcher of BCMaterials, for becoming new doctor on 3rd March. Naveen made an excellent defense of his thesis entitled "Reliability Enhancement of Perovskite Solar Cells: Role of Low-Dimensional Materials for Interfacial Modifications". We are happy for Naveen after all these years of hard work. He has a bright future ahead. Congratulations, Naveen!!

We want to congratulate Ainara Valverde de Mingo, pre-doctoral researcher of BCMaterials, for becoming new doctor on 25th January. Ainara made an excellent defense of her thesis entitled "Metal-organic frameworks and their composites for water remediation". We are glad to see Ainara overcoming this turning point of every researcher career and we are sure that we will see her next steps forward soon. Congratulations, Ainara!!
