Fuelium Wins BEST 2025 Award for Most Circular Basque Startup

Fuelium, a startup co-founded and scientifically advised by our Ikerbasque Research Associate Professor Juan Pablo Esquivel, has been honored as the Most Circular Basque Startup at the Basque Circular Summit, which took place from April 2 to 4 in Bilbao. The jury of the BEST 2025 awards, the event's prestigious recognition, acknowledged Fuelium for its innovative eco-designed paper batteries, specifically tailored for single-use portable devices in in vitro diagnostics and personal care applications, such as pregnancy tests and blood and saliva analysis.
According to the award organizers, "Fuelium has developed a competitive solution in terms of raw material and manufacturing costs, significantly reducing waste generation." The battery is crafted from sustainable, non-toxic materials, making it recyclable with paper and cardboard, as well as biodegradable and compostable.
Other winners of the BEST 2025 awards included Fagor Ederlan (Most Circular Product), Somos Oreka (Most Circular Service), and Gamesa Gearbox (Most Circular Business Model).
At BCMaterials, we extend our heartfelt congratulations to Juan Pablo Esquivel and the entire Fuelium team for this remarkable achievement!
