Three BCMaterials Researchers Earn Their PhDs

At the end of June, BCMaterials added three new names to its list of PhD graduates in Materials Science: Juan David Cortés, James Martin, and Mahdi Gassara. They defended their doctoral theses just a few days apart. Cortés defended his thesis at the University of Alicante, while Martin and Gassara did so at the University of the Basque Country (EHU).

Juan David Cortés defended his thesis, entitled “Charge Transport in Self-Assembled Protein-Based Materials for Bioelectronics”, on June 18. Supervised at BCMaterials by Ikerbasque Research Associate Professor Reyes Calvo, his work focused on the electrical characterisation of self-assembled systems based on peptides and proteins, as well as their integration into bioelectronic devices.

James Martin obtained his PhD on June 24 with the thesis “Inorganic Lead-Free Vacancy-Ordered Perovskite Materials for Thin Film Optoelectronic Applications.” Two days later, Mahdi Gassara defended her thesis, entitled “Advanced Material and Interface Engineering for Enhanced Performance and Stability in Perovskite Solar Cells.”

Both Martin and Gassara were supervised by BCMaterials researchers Shahzada Ahmad and Samrana Kazim, and mentored by Luis Lezama, Professor of Inorganic Chemistry at the University of the Basque Country (EHU).
