Vanessa Galván and Álvaro Cortés, new pre-doctoral researchers

Two new pre-doctoral researchers join BCMaterials: Vanessa Galván de Cos and Álvaro Cortés Flores.
A graduate in Chemistry from the UPV/EHU, Vanessa Galván has taken two previous steps at BCMaterials to complete her final degree and master's theses. In her final degree project, Galván researched materials with therapeutic uses in diseases such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's through the use of MOFs to control the size of particles in amyloid protein aggregates. In her master’s thesis for the Master's in New Materials at the UPV/EHU, Vanessa continued to develop the aforementioned line of research.
The objective of her pre-doctoral research will be to create hydrogels that can respond to external stimuli, with the aim of regenerating damaged tissues, such as cartilage.
Álvaro Cortés joins BCMaterials to study the optoelectronic properties and magnetic transitions of two-dimensional materials under stress. Cortés holds a degree in Physics from the University of Alicante. His final degree project focused on the development of a chemical vapor deposition (CVD) system for the growth of two-dimensional transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDC). He subsequently completed a master's degree in Nanoscience and Molecular Nanotechnology, also at the University of Alicante. His master's thesis focused on the tuning of biaxial deformation of neutral excitons in the monolayer semiconductor WS2.
BCMaterials would like to welcome both young researchers.
