Three New Post-Doc Researchers Join BCMaterials

We want to give our warmest welcome to Paola Zimmermann Crocomo, Diana Cabrosi and Francisco Peralta, who joined BCMaterials as post-doctoral researchers, under the Basque Government’s IKUR strategy program.

Paola Crocomo

Dr. Paola Crocomo brings extensive experience in the synthesis and characterization of functional materials, with applications ranging from electrochemical sensors and photonic devices to energy storage systems. Her academic journey has taken her through top research institutions in Brazil, Poland, and Spain, combining expertise in chemistry, materials science, and advanced analytical techniques.

Before joining BCMaterials, she worked at CIC energiGUNE, where she focused on high-temperature phase change materials and protective coatings for thermal systems. Her work there contributed to the development of materials designed to operate under extreme conditions, with potential applications in renewable energy technologies.

At BCMaterials, Dr. Crocomo will explore innovative material solutions with a clear societal impact, aligning with the center’s mission of advancing smart and sustainable technologies, while working in Advanced Functional Materials and Surfaces research line.

Daiana Cabrosi

For her part, Dr. Daiana Cabrosi obtained her PhD in Chemistry from the University of Buenos Aires in 2024. Her doctoral research focused on the synthesis and magnetic characterization of heterometallic Cr(III)-Ln(III) complexes exhibiting single-molecule magnet behavior, aiming to mitigate quantum tunneling of magnetization through tailored magnetic coupling. She is particularly motivated to explore materials whose magnetic properties can be tuned through chemical modification.

At BCMaterials, Dr. Cabrosi will work within the Micro and Nano-structured Materials research line developing prototype platforms for quantum technologies based on mononuclear lanthanide qubits. This involves integrating these qubits into 2D metal-organic frameworks, followed by their exfoliation into nanosheets and deposition onto functionalized surfaces.

Francisco Peralta

The third post-doctoral researcher that joined our center, Dr. Francisco Andrés Peralta, graduated in Biochemistry (PUCV, Valparaíso, Chile, 2013) where he studied the expression and phosphorylation of plasticity-related proteins in the hippocampus of ASD-like rats.

He received his PhD in Neuroscience (USACH, Santiago, Chile, 2018) studying the molecular mechanism of the zinc positive modulation over P2X4 receptors. After completing his PhD, he did a short postdoctoral stay at USACH unraveling the role of TRPM4 in neural excitability of prefrontal cortex. After this period, he moved to France and joined UNISTRA, in Strasbourg, from 2020 to 2022, where he participated in revealing a P2X7-TMEM16F interaction and developing the first light-gated PIEZO channel.

Finalizing his stay in France, moved to Spain to work as part of the Sensory Transduction and Nociception Group of the Institute of Neurosciences in Alicante, studying the mechanism underlying the peripheral neuropathy following chemotherapy. Peralta joined BCMaterials as part of the Active and Smart Materials line to work in the BraIn-On-chip project.
