Successful New Workshop of the INDESMOF European Project

On December 19, the workshop 'Materials Science for Environment and Beyond' was held at the University of Minho (Portugal), organized by the consortium of entities participating in the European INDESMOF project. BCMaterials coordinates this project funded by the European Union through the Horizon 2020 program. The aim of this research is the development of new filters for the removal of heavy metals from water. These filters are based on metal-organic compounds (MOFs) loaded with specific deep eutectic solvents (DES).
The workshop, which had more than 50 attending researchers, in person and online, was divided into four sessions related to the research aspects of INDESMOF:
• Synergies between materials/processes and biology for water remediation.
• Coupling water remediation and revalorization.
• Water, mining and real-life application.
• The secondees as the heart of Staff-Exchange actions.
The workshop added up to 15 presentations by research centers and universities such as the Università Degli Study di Torino (Italy), the Advanced Mining Technology Center (AMTC) of the University of Chile, the University of Buenos Aires (Argentina), the Free State University (South Africa), the University of Minho and BCMaterials, among others.
