Invited Talk by Liu Yao on Lithium-Metal Batteries (December 2)

Next Monday, December 2, Liu Yao, professor at the Shanghai Institute of Applied Physics, will give an invited lecture at BCMaterials entitled ‘Li-Metal Batteries: From Liquid to Solid-State’. The lecture will take place in the auditorium of the Martina Casiano building, home to BCMaterials, on the University of the Basque Country's science campus in Leioa, starting at 11:00 AM.

The lecture aims to present ongoing research on the development of high-performance solid-state polymer-based lithium-metal batteries, focusing on strategies to overcome key material and interfacial challenges (such as dendrite suppression and stability issues) that limit conventional liquid-electrolyte lithium-metal batteries.

About the Speaker

Dr. Liu Yao received his PhD in Chemistry from Fudan University in June 2019 and subsequently served as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Washington, USA. In March 2023, he joined the Shanghai Institute of Applied Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, as a research professor and currently leads the Innovative Energy Storage Batteries Research Group. His research focuses primarily on energy storage and conversion, addressing the major challenges of electrochemical energy storage devices. He is the author of over 70 SCI-indexed articles, cited more than 6,000 times, with an H-index of 30. He has also filed 20 patent applications. As a principal investigator, he has led projects such as the NSFC and the CAS Youth Talent Project.
