Invited Talk with Barcelona Microelectronics Institute’s researchers (December 3)

On December 3 at 12:00 PM, in the Martina Casiano Auditorium in Leioa, BCMaterials will host senior researchers Antón Guimerà and Xavier Illa from the Barcelona Microelectronics Institute  (IMB-CNM, CSIC), who will deliver a new invited lecture at our center.

Titled "Advanced Technology for Biomedical Applications," the talk will highlight the microfabrication capabilities of the IMB-CNM cleanroom through two research case studies from the Biomedical Applications Group. First, Guimerà and Illa will discuss their work on integrating sensing functionalities into organ-on-a-chip platforms. They will then present their research on incorporating graphene-based materials into thin-film technologies to develop new implantable, flexible neural interfaces with enhanced performance.

About the Speakers

Dr. Antón Guimerà is a senior scientist at IMB-CNM (CSIC), where he leads the Biomonitoring Group of CIBER-BBN and the Neural Interfaces Research Line within the Biomedical Applications Group (GAB). His work focuses on developing innovative micro- and nanotechnology-based devices for biomedical applications.

Dr. Xavier Illa, also a senior scientist at IMB-CNM (CSIC), heads the GAB Technology Unit. His research centers on advanced microfabrication techniques for processing thin films, including the use of graphene and other 2D materials to create new implants and prosthetic devices developed at the IMB-CNM Micro- and Nanofabrication Cleanroom.
