Richard Schönlein, New Post-Doctoral Researcher

We are happy to welcome Richard Schönlein as a new post-doctoral researcher at our center. Richard joins the Active and Smart Materials research line, where he will contribute to the design and fabrication of sustainable, biobased and bioresorbable piezoelectric devices for biomedical applications including energy harvesters, sensors and electroactive scaffolds.
Richard Schönlein earned his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology in Germany. In his doctoral thesis, entitled “Piezoelectric Polylactide-based Materials for Biomedical Applications: Fundamentals, Fabrication Strategies and Characterization”, he explored in the Basque Center for Macromolecular Design and Engineering (POLYMAT) various fabrication techniques, including melt spinning, electrospinning, melt extrusion writing and film drawing in order to generate piezoelectric chain morphology. Thanks to an international stay at CURAM Research Centre for Medical Devices in Ireland, he gained comprehensive understanding of medical devices, preparing him for his postdoctoral research at BCMaterials.
