Invited Talk with Daniel Hernangómez (June 11)

BCMaterials is proud to host Dr. Daniel Hernangómez, Gipuzkoa Fellow at CICnanoGUNE (Donostia-San Sebastián) in a new invited talk. The talk is titled: “Excitonic landscapes in TMDCs: from defect-driven effects to magneto-optics” and it will start at 11:00 at the Martina Casiano auditorium (BCMaterials headquarters).
Low-dimensional transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs) are atomically thin materials known for their unique electronic and optical properties. A notable feature of TMDCs is their rich excitonic behavior, characterized by strong many-body effects that are structurally tunable and valley-selective. These properties are also reflected in their magneto-optical response, where the Zeeman shift in photoluminescence under magnetic fields provides insights into renormalization processes induced by many-body electron interactions.
Daniel Hernangómez Pérez is a Gipuzkoa Fellow CIC nanoGUNE (Spain). He received his Ph.D. in Condensed Matter and Radiation Physics from Université de Grenoble (France), working with Thierry Champel. From 2015 to 2022, he held postdoctoral positions at Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (Spain), Universität Regensburg (Germany), and the Weizmann Institute of Science (Israel) where he was Dean of Faculty Fellow. Daniel Hernangómez Pérez works on several aspects of quantum transport, magneto-optical effects, and electronic and excitonic properties of low-dimensional systems. His research combines first-principles calculations, numerical simulations of model Hamiltonians, and analytical methods. He is also a contributing developer of the FHI-aims and AITRANSS simulation codes.
