Pablo Docampo, New Ikerbasque Professor at BCMaterials

We are glad to welcome Pablo Docampo as new Ikerbasque Research Professor at BCMaterials.

Prof. Docampo received his DPhil in 2012 from the University of Oxford focussing on the electronic properties of mesostructured metal oxides in solid-state dye-sensitized solar cells. He subsequently became interested in hybrid halide perovskites which he further developed in his postdoctoral research stay with Thomas Bein at the LMU Munich in 2013. There, he was appointed assistant professor and Marie Curie Fellow between 2014 and 2016 and obtained his 'habilitation' in Physical Chemistry. Prof. Docampo has led a research group investigating the fundamental device physics of hybrid halide perovskite materials in optoelectronic applications both as a Reader in Physics at Newcastle University (2016-2020) and as a Reader in Chemistry at the University of Glasgow (2020-2025).

Prof. Docampo's research is centred on enabling a future of low-cost, printable and recyclable electronics, and, in the longer term, computational elements. At its core is the exploitation of unique materials properties to perform tasks typically associated with silicon or other classic semiconductors. His research will combine novel material exploration coupled with fundamental understanding of the material properties and their incorporation into novel devices through collaborative work, e.g. solar cells, transistors or LEDs.

His research activity at BCMaterials will focus on the Advanced Functional Materials and Surfaces line of research.
