The BCMaterials is an autonomous research center that covers all aspects of research in Functional Materials with advanced Electric, Magnetic and Optical properties; from basic aspects to applications. Special activity is devoted to thin films materials and characterization techniques involving Large International Facilities, like neutron and synchrotron radiation sources.

Aiming a world leadership in Materials Research, the BCM is currently developing his activity in three main lines, namely:

All of these lines already count with a number of high level researchers and facilities that are shared with the University of the Basque Country. Specific facilities are a clean room for thin film deposition and nanolithography, Sputtering, Pulsed Laser Deposition and Spin Coating as well as lift-off and RIE facilities for lithography, profilometry, Atomic/Magnetic Force Microscopy, SQUID and Magneto Optical Kerr Effect (MOKE) magnetometry, etc. We are currently increasing the number and relevance of the people involved, the scientific facilities, the international collaborations and the participation in ambitious and relevant research projects at national and international level.
A call for new positions is now open. If you are an experienced scientist with a large publication record and a wide network of collaborations, or a young and highly motivated scientist apply here.
The activity of the BCM is directed to improve the level and productivity of the existing research groups in Materials in Biscay, and adds to others preexisting centers to conform a hard core of research institutes grouped in the future Scientific Park at the Campus of Leioa of the University of the Basque Country. The provisional location of the Center is the Technological Park of Zamudio.
