Active and smart materials

Active and smart materials are at the core of the on-going rapid technological development, base of the digitization though their sensing capabilities and at the core of next generation materials, allying additive manufacturing and environmental friendly approaches, among others. Shape memory, magnetocaloric and elastocaloric materials, piezoelectric, magnetoelectric, and self-healing materials as well as multifunctional hydrogels will be developed. A deep understating on the structural and molecular modifications behind the active responses allows tailoring materials responses. 2D materials will be also being addressed within this research line based on their intrinsic tuneable properties.
